Review of Ready mixed mortar and concrete

The CSO has concluded an in-depth review of the sources and methods used in the construction of the Ready mixed mortar and concrete sub-index of the Building and Construction Materials Index. This review was initiated following concerns raised by the Irish Concrete Federation about recent trends in this sub-index. The review revealed that, in a small number of cases, incorrect price quotations had been inadvertently supplied to the CSO. It also emerged that one item, which was being used as a marker product for the sector, had ceased to be of importance and the price trends were no longer representative. Accordingly, the CSO has recalculated the monthly sub-index, the All Materials Index, the Capital Goods Index, and the Capital Goods Index, Building and Construction (i.e. materials and wages) from January 2002 onwards. The revised indices are presented below and it may be noted that the most significant changes occurred in the first half of 2002. The CSO regrets any inconvenience caused by these revisions.
